This means that with the right care and attention; an item may last through generations.

Using this guide, you will be able to educate yourself on Hermès’ blind stamps.
Hermès Blind Stamp & Year Reference Guide
Using so called “blind” stamping, Hermès utilises a combination of letters in alphabetical order and geometrical shapes to date their products. Additional numbers/letters that appear next to the blind stamp, will indicate which section of the production atelier where the craftsman produced the item. This particular innovation was introduced due to Hermès strict policy about repairs: It dictates that repairs must always be performed by the original craftsman or his/her direct apprentice.
Introducing their unique system in 1945, Hermès products were originally stamped with letters and included no shapes until 1970. From 1971 to 1996 a circle shape was implemented. In 1997 a square shape replaced the circle and it is still in use.
The below list explains the year of production based on and the letter and geometrical shape system. At the top of every list is the shape that the letter would be framed inside.
2014 R (only early production had square)
2015 T (no square)
2016 X (no square)
2017 A (no square)
2018 C (no square)
2019 D (no square)
* Note some Hermes bags including the Evelyne and Double Sens left the factory with a “JO” stamp in a rectangle instead of O stamp in square.
Keep in Mind
Like our other house brands; outlet, surplus stock and sale doesn’t exist in Hermès vocabulary. New Hermès pieces are only sold in official Hermès boutiques and in high-end department stores whom rent space to Hermès. Because Hermès will discard any item that doesn’t pass inspection, there simply isn’t a secondary market for their items as you would otherwise find for Gucci, Prada, Burberry and the like.
Hermès is expensive. Their bags, accessories and jewelry are all coveted across the globe and because of this, you’ll see more counterfeit examples out on the streets than you will the real deal. Though it is tempting to believe in that once-in-a-lifetime bargain right in front of you – odds are that you’ll be sorry you went through with it. There are few things worse than feeling cheated and helpless! That’s why we encourage customers to consider spending slightly more on their dream piece. So instead of risking buying fake, consider purchasing from our guaranteed authentic offerings.
